For decades now, cosmetic companies (and their marketing agencies) have tried to convince consumers that the key to beautiful skin comes in the form of a 3-Step-Program:
1. Cleanse 2. Tone 3. Moisturize. More recently that regime has been expanded to also include…4. Protect. From the ‘nasty’ sun, always! It’s ironic, vitamin D deficiency is now so prevalent now! I’ll be blogging about that later… As well as these 4 steps … let’s not forget the eye creams, the masks, the exfoliants etc. etc. – all at an additional cost of course. The good news for those of you ready to break free from this costly mantra, is that there is an easy, affordable “miracle” product, that will keep your skin naturally clean, protected and beautiful.

Many of you may be wondering why essential oils vary so much in price. In a nutshell, the easier it is to extract the oil and the cheaper the plant source, the less expensive the final product is to purchase. From the many plants on earth, there are hundreds capable of having their essential oil extracted; and some that simply don’t yield enough. Therefore, it stands to reason that the amount of oil that a particular plant is capable of producing will have a direct affect on the price of that particular product.
It stands to reason that in order for essential oils to work their magic on our bodies, they need to be absorbed into our system. This can happen in one of two ways.
Firstly, when we smell essential oils, a tiny amount is absorbed through our lungs. While this can certainly have an effect on our body, the intensity is nowhere near as powerful as when essential oils (always diluted) are applied to our skin. In fact, when applied topically, the oils are absorbed one thousand times more than when inhaled. The reason being is that they are actually absorbed into our blood via our skin, essentially becoming a part of us (excuse the pun). Let me explain further. When you think of the word 'oil' the first thought that usually comes to mind is a greasy substance. But in the case of essential oils, many people are surprised to learn that it simply isn’t the case. Believe it or not, essential oils aren’t actually 'oily' at all – but like oil, they do not mix with water and are oil soluble.
So, what are essential oils? |
